MIKE SONG

ABDC’s Kaba Modern, Kaba Modern Legacy Artistic Director, Culture Shock LA, Anbu Black Ops, Yo Mama Crew

As a child, growing up in Torrance, California, Mike Song was inspired to dance by the likes of American artists such as Michael Jackson and Usher as well as Korean artists such as HOT and Yoo Seung Jun.  At first, he only displayed his moves at church alleys, radio show contests, and whenever he was on the losing end of a bet.  However, when he entered UC irvine in 2004 as an economics major, he joined Kaba Modern, which changed his life. In a few short years, he became director of Kaba Modern.  During his year as director in 2007, Kaba Modern won 1st Place in the USA finals and 2ndPlace in the World Finals at Hip Hop Internationals dance competition.  Mike went on to represent the team in the first season of MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew.  Since then, he has traveled extensively (both domestically and internationally), to perform and teach, and hopefully, inspire others to dance and promote positivity.  He has also judged and battled at various dance events.  In 2007, Mike won 1st place at the Annual “In the Spotlight” Battle in Southern California and he won the 2010 Urban Street Jam All Stylz 2-on-2 battle with Victor Kim from Quest Crew.  Mike has taught workshops in Guam, Canada, Switzerland, Holland, Germany, Norway, Hawaii, Mexico, South Africa, and continues to travel and teach around the world.  He is also a featured choreographer for the London show, Blaze. Mike is also the current Artistic Director for Kaba Modern Legacy, the founder/co-director of both Anbu Black Ops and Yo Mama Crew, and is a company dancer/choreographer for Culture Shock Los Angeles.
