MEET THE TEAMS – FANNY PAK (CA) Posted Mar 20, 2010 by admin

FANNY PAK

Los Angeles-based Fanny Pak formed gradually as a group of friends who took classes together and eventually started to perform for fun. Now, Matt, Glenda, Phillip, Tiffani, Barracuda, Beau and Megan all want the world to know that they’re not afraid to “go there.” All while sporting their very own fanny packs…

Team leader and choreographer Matt Cady is the sun in the Fanny Pak solar system, having taught the class where most of the crew met. His crewmate Glenda Morales is a vegetable-loathing Harry Potter fan with an internal alarm clock that wakes her up promptly at 8 a.m. every morning. Less of a morning person and more of a chocoholic, Phillip Collins is relishing the opportunity to follow his dreams. Also living the dream is kooky aspiring dance therapist Tiffani Grant, who simply lives, eats and breathes dance.

Barracuda thinks her fashion sense captures her personality: loud, crazy, bright and not too serious. Meanwhile, Beau Fournier, a Britney Spears fanatic and raspberry iced tea enthusiast, hopes to inspire people to let their crazy selves come alive when he unleashes his fancy footwork. Rounding out the crew is Canadian Megan Lawson, who is an eBay addict that harbors a love of travel.

Overall, the eclectic crew has a zany style that they hope will put a smile on faces across the globe.

SAMANTHA YU (Static Noyze)

ROUND 2: 5:00PM

Samantha Yu stumbled across dance when she joined her school’s group with her best friend at the age of 8. The plan had been to use their experience to achieve their ultimate goal… teaching a routine as an activity at Kaorina’s 9th birthday party! After that, they would leave the team they had no more use for. But after her first rehearsal, she knew she would never be able to stop dancing. Since then she has trained in multiple styles including jazz, tap, modern, ballet, contemporary, and hip hop. After completing her sophomore year at Harvard College, she is currently taking a year off to focus on her passion for dance – performing with Static Noyze Dance Company and WRUSH Dance Crew, and training as much as she can. She would like to thank FR3SH for their invitation to teach in New Jersey – an opportunity for which she is incredibly excited. She can’t wait to meet and dance with as many people as possible!

STEVEN HOM (RAPS Dance Troupe)

ROUND 3: 6:00PM

Steven Hom’s humble beginnings started at the age of 16 with the crew Nuisance. It was there that he first discovered and learned how to breakdance and battle from fellow crew members, as well as through self-teaching. He proceeded to attend b-boy sessions and gained knowledge from other breakdancers to improve on his craft. After four years of b-boying, he was introduced to hip-hop choreography and freestyling when he joined SERCisCompany and STFU Crew. Striving to grow as a dancer and broaden his horizons, Steve later joined and currently dances with Point Blank (Philly’s Best Dance Crew) and Raps Dance Troupe, and has contributed choreography to both teams. He has also participated in competitions/shows such as, Prelude EC Dance Competition and World of Dance (NY), as well as many shows within the east coast hip-hop community. After almost three years of improving his skills through dancing with various groups, freestyling, and self-teaching, Steve aspires to reach a level where he can inspire others just as others have done for him.
